The present financial crisis explained in simple terms.............................

One-eyed-Gordon is the proprietor of a bar in London. In order to increase sales, he decides to allow his loyal customers - most of whom are unemployed alcoholics - to drink now but pay later.

He keeps track of the drinks consumed on a ledger (thereby granting the customers loans).

Word gets around and as a result increasing numbers of customers flood into One-eyed-Gordon's bar. Taking advantage of his customers' freedom from immediate payment constraints, One-eyed-Gordon increases his prices for wine and beer, the most-consumed beverages. His sales volume increases massively.

A young and dynamic customer service consultant at the local bank recognizes these customer debts as valuable future assets and increases One-eyed-Gordon's borrowing limit. He sees no reason for undue concern since he has the debts of the alcoholics as collateral. At the bank's corporate headquarters, expert bankers transform these customer assets into DRINKBONDS, ALKBONDS and PUKEBONDS. These securities are then traded on markets worldwide. No one really understands what these abbreviations mean and how the securities are guaranteed. Nevertheless, as their prices continuously climb, the securities become top-selling items.

One day, although the prices are still climbing, a risk manager (subsequently of course fired due his negativity) at the bank decides that the time has come to demand payment of the debts incurred by the drinkers at One-eyed-Gordon's bar. However they cannot pay back the debts. One-eyed-Gordon cannot fulfill his loan obligations and claims bankruptcy. DRINKBOND and ALKBOND drop in price by 95 %. PUKEBOND performs better, stabilizing in price after dropping by 80 %.

The suppliers of One-eyed-Gordon's bar, having granted his generous payment due dates and having invested in the securities, are faced with a new situation. His wine supplier claims bankruptcy and his beer supplier is taken over by a competitor. The bank is saved by the Government following dramatic round-the-clock consultations by leaders from the governing political parties. The funds required for this purpose are obtained by a tax levied on the non-drinkers.

______________!!!!__________________

An entry after so long……. (Not so long actually) these days I was a bit busy ( donno for wat but stil) freakin out here n there wid some friens, shiftin from places to places findin a nest for myself….

life sometime become so exuberant that we don wanna lose a single moment of lyf and zzzzzzuupp yet another moment suddenly things come to be so ho hum n lyf become slow and tedious that one goes away from it in the state of self realization. Mind rotates like a pendulum of the clock over very petty issues.

Don’t we think that the recession and the global depression has a reversal effect on over lives, people are losing jobs many people are unemployed. People in USA are attempting to suicide due to job loss or unemployment. New graduates are not getting jobs. People who are employed are having fear of cost cut and severe pressure.

Every now n then we read the articles in the news paper based on the recession, slowdown, depression, job cuts... n in the business or economy section. And not to mention the economic times the paper is full of such articles (people suffering from high blood pressure be cautious reading such news paper….. lolz) as daily or alternate days we can find the big blue chip companies announcing the job cuts, declining growth rate, etc. so here life goes on oscillating between slowdown and recession.

Cheers people the story is not so sad at all at this time the banks are decreasing the bank rates, plr to infuse more money into the system and to increase the purchasing power of the common people. RBI has continuously decreased the crr, slr, reporate during the last 6 months and the government is trying its best to cope up with such situation. Also the oil prices are decreasing after decades, which are having cascading effect on some economies. The inflation rate is about zero; soon our country will see deflation after so long when last it was there in 1975.

On the other side the companies are goin through a stage of consolidation whereby the fittest would survive the top management is busy plannin some good strategies and revive the plans for the companies. In this race the competitive people will survive and the nonperformers would be left besides. The good news is that the companies are becoming more though to be prepared for any such drive henceforth.

The show has not ended, still the worst part is yet to come so be prepared, experts say the slowdown will have its impact uptill end of 2009 and may be extending to 2010.

Slumdogs Are No Underdogs

The laurels that A. R. Rehman, Gulzar & Resul Pookutty brought to India at the centrestage of the Academy Awards function have enthralled every conscious Indian. We may have had loads of criticism against the portrayal of India's poverty and wretched condition of life of its slum-dwellers in this movie, but we cannot detach ourselves from dousing in the celebration for the victors who are very much Indian.

This is not the end of the story; India have once again proven her worth in another field - banking. Our very own State Bank of India (fondly known as SBI) have superseded Citigroup's market capitalisation to be among the largest banks in the world. The market capitalisation of SBI on Friday closed at Rs. 66,285 crore. This is around 25% more than the closing market capitalisation of Citigroup on the NYSE on Friday. The market capitalisation of Citigroup was Rs. 52,931 crore.

Though Citigroup's revenue in the last four quarters is almost eleven times more than the revenue earned by SBI, its profits are nowhere near the figures earned by SBI. While Citigroup has suffered losses of Rs. 83,474 crore in the last four quarters, SBI has booked profits of Rs. 8,262 crore. Martin Hutchinson, an economic commentator, recently put out a list on the status of the 12 largest banks in the US. He categorised Citi as a zombie bank. “Citi has been a serial flirter with bankruptcy over the past 30 years and remains a basket case,” he wrote.

Valentine’s Day

The so called the lovers dayJ\... huuh the day lovers are waitin for and are makin advance planin for the day.

The only reason why this holiday is celebrated on 14th feb is because February being the shortest month of the year so there is a greater chance of the people having more disposable incometo waste on the expensive gift in the name of love.

Gifting bouquets of red roses, heart shaped boxes of chocolates, greeting cards (with all fake shayris), teddy bears is a common practice all over the world, there is a little differences in the way V day is celebrated across various cultures. For example, in India saffron coloured kurta or muffler wearing youth(shiv sena, shri ram sena, bajrang dal, VHP….many more….)armed with lathis attack male and female sitting ever within five meter radius of each other. According to them these days harm to our culture and if the couple really loves each other why don’t they should be married to each other sot they are also found accompanied with the pundits who will arrange the marriage ceremony of the male female youths on the spot found together on the day.

We can also find many despos (desipoets) on the poets busy writing some rhymes to there beloved or busy finding beloved... but I can’t understand why one needs a day to express the love towards each other it can be done anyday anywhere n anytimes.

Well... well this is just a personnel insights and I donn have any oppose thoughts against the V day
So enjoy, love and be loved.

Saali Khushi

This post of mine is inspired by the music score of the upcoming movie Dev D.

Well it finely depicts the truth within..

Kaha chali gayi hai saali khushi…

Once it was the time where I was so happy and everything in the lyf was so fine, but now as if life is on a rollercoaster with much of the ups and down and I duuno kaha chali gayi hai saali khushi.

Its placement season in our campus and the due to the financial turmoil there are less number of companies comin to campus these season and that too at a lower package. Even the companies has got a reason to cut down the packages. Have I mentioned that I have opted for Finance as a specialization and wanna go in core finance as career.

Well being a fresher its though to go in core finance in the beginning despite of all the economy slowdown- where the companies are laying off instead of recruiting .I have been trying in hard to be fit somewhere but currently there are no openings in the finance sector other then the financial products. But still I am tryin on and on…and the hope maintains within.

Often life oscillates between what could have been and what will be…in the midst of which I forget what is! I think that happens to most of us – always ruefully or fondly remembering the past and weaving nascent dreams for future! What easily goes for a toss then is the PRESENT – the time that is…the time we are living in…NOW!
And funnily, every time we read it, or hear someone saying it or even think of it ourselves, it makes perfect sense that we should get back to making the most of what we have now, rather than cribbing about any other phase of life. But it rarely ever happens. Even if it does happen, it is just momentary.
Over time, through fleeting incidents that life offers and chance meeting with interesting people, I have grown to realize that unlike what I thought earlier – happiness and sadness are nothing but a state of mind over which we have full control and command. It is how we choose and how we live, that determines our reactions to different situations in our life and the decisions that we make and/or are forced to make!

These were just few very personal insights. But there are many more, which each of us encounter in our day to day life but conveniently ignore.

‘Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory.’ I am not saying it is easy to forget and move on. But atleast I have to make an effort of being thankful for so many things that God has given me – some even without asking, rather than blaming him for what he did not give me. Yes I need to change and understand God’s connotation behind this message. This is a challenging journey but it should not be too hard. The least I can begin with is appreciating the miracle called life and the gift called nature. It is never too late.

Traffic of pune

I live at the place called sinhgad road since I have been in pune the road have been always under construction and so thanks the road for all the dust and pollution we have been inhaling so long.

The people here have to encounter the traffic jams and not to mention that these traffic jam have become the material part of ppls life, and if any day when there is no jam here (oofcourse which does not happen) the people does not feelto drive over…

Well what to mention abt the particular road the whole pune traffic is a chaos..

These are general rules for all the vehicles

(This is a very imp rule...anyone found violating this rule may be heavily fined..!) – I am never wrong..even if I change my lane, cross another's lane...I am not wrong...rather I am proving my driving skills...

If someone honks and I give way...I am not fit to drive in Pune.

I need not give an indication that I'm turning, in advance. It is only sufficient that I turn the wheels of my vehicle in the direction I wish to turn. Vehicles that maybe inconvenienced are none of my concern.

I am driving on a race track, so even if I hit someone who cares...

If I'm stuck in a traffic jam...even 1cm of distance I cover will help me reach my destination in time...

If someone is hit, falls down, is hurt...I am not supposed to stop and help. I am supposed to watch and have a hearty laugh at how people are arguing...

At a crossing, it is your right to go first...always...

If a vehicles is struggling to take a u-turn on a busy road, and he's half wat through, you are not supposed to give him way. He is destined to wait, even if that means causing a traffic jam for the other traffic...

Try your best to break signals, signals are made to be broken...

If a female overtakes you, your ego is hurt. Overtake her, cut her lane in the next three seconds, else your not fit to be a man...

If you have to turn right...you should not be in the right lane...

These are rules buses/trucks follow

I need to keep changing my lane from extreme right to extreme left...

If another vehicle wheeler is trying to overtake me from the right, block him in such a way that he's just saved from getting cramped...

These are rules two wheelers follow

Drive as if the road is curved...take sharp turns at every turn...(coz the youth is very imaginative na..)

Keep to your left is an old rule...the new one is keep ur vehicle in the middle lane...

In case of a traffic jam, use footpaths as roads...every inch forward helps you in reaching your destination...in time...

These are rules cars follow

Who said only two wheelers can zig-zag and keep changing lanes...I can do that too...

These are rules rickshaws follow

I can stop anywhere in between..(afterall I need passengers na...)

These are rules cyclists follow

I will not drive on the left...that hurts my image...

These are rules pedestrians follow..to ease vehicular (com)motion

Don't use footpaths...they have been made by mistake..

Don't cross when the signal is red...the best time is when its green...and vehicles are approaching at their top speed...(its adventurous na...)

Ghajini - Review

well its too late for the review of the movie but still i have to do it since i went to my home town and was unable to post the review. well the movie is fantastic as was predicted and is doing good business and is also breaking records for business.

The movie is not ditto copied but the concept is taken from memento- err atleast bollywood people have done something this time.

It’s been years since I saw a Hindi film that had so few dialogues for the leading man. Quite unlikely for a masala movie about romance and revenge! Stoically, Aamir Khan walks and rips through the film with the charm of a Casanova and the beastliness of a vengeful man, and delivers a performance that will be remembered even though the movie itself may be forgotten after a few months.

Director A.R. Murugadoss tells a long story at a brisk pace and shows no frugality in depicting violence in all its goriness. It is blood curdling stuff gruesomely glorified. Stuff that gives you the heebie-jeebies! It’s mostly hand-to-hand combat with frequent use of iron rods that serve the sole purpose as skull-crushers. Repulsive!

But if you have stomach for such revolting violence, you would enjoy sitting through ‘Ghajini’ for many reasons. First, it’s unique plot. Second, Aamir’s mind-blowing acting. Third, Asin’s confident debut in a heart-winning performance. Jiah Khan is appropriately cast in a role that doesn’t demand much from her. Pradeep Rawat, as the antagonist, is menacing.

There is a gaping hole that yawns right at the very base of Ghajini’s story. If a man can’t remember that his lover was killed or who killed her, why does he need to remind himself again and again to take revenge. Wouldn’t his vengeance wane away with his memory? Murugadoss should have established some internal link that keeps pushing the protagonist back to his mission – something like sporadic dreams or memory flashes.

Anyway, realism is something you shouldn’t expect from ‘Ghajini’. It’s a full-on masala film that is stylishly shot and has above average music by A R Rahman . It’s a film that needs to be enjoyed with mouthful of cola and fistful of popcorns even though the no-holds-barred violence keeps getting on your nerves. Despite its long duration of three-plus hours, the movie, with its quick pace, doesn’t weigh heavy, and leaves you with a mind out of time. Anterograde Amnesia, anyone?
